The public is increasingly concerned about the impact the oil and gas industry has on the environment. The intent of Directive 055 Storage Requirements for the Upstream Petroleum Industry & Saskatchewan Upstream Petroleum Industry Storage Standards S-01 is to prevent soil, groundwater and surface contamination. AER release reporting data indicate that the majority of releases from tanks are the result of operational issues (e.g. overfilling of tanks, leaks and drips from valves and fittings, and spillage associated with inventory movement) not catastrophic tank failures.

Recognizing this, and combining it with the desire of production operations to “do the right thing” and their pride in the facilities they operate lead to the development of our proprietary training material. Implementation of preventative measures such as training, assisting with the development of core competencies and improved inspection capabilities support improved compatibility of upstream oil & gas operations with the environment while promoting sustainability.

Ultimately, individual awareness is needed so that we can take responsibility and prevent spills to reduce contamination and long term costs for the industry. We encourage Operator's to do a monthly visual inspection and we have the tools to get your team on the right track. Learning Events
